Events Proposed for 2010

1. The 9th European lock collectors meeting is being held on the 24th, 25th and 26th September 2010 in the city of Wurzburg in Germany. The programme is as follows.

PROGRAMME

Friday 24th September - around noon (12.00) meet at the hotel. Afterwards a visit to the lovely gardens of the Archbishop's Summer Residence (biggest known Rococo garden) is recommended, and/or have a drink in numerous cafes in the village. Meeting starts officially at 6.00pm with lock trading in Restaurant "Rokoko" (tables for the lock display/trading can be prepared from 5.00pm).

In the evening there will be an open ended common buffet in this Restaurant. The German lock pickers (Sportsfreunde der Sperrtechnik) meeting is being held at the same time, and they have been invited to attend our event in the Restaurant.

Saturday, 25th September - after breakfast at 10.40pm River boat trip to Wurzburg City centre (takes about 40minutes). There in the Castle Marienburg there will be a Special Lock Exhibition provided by the Hans Schell Collection. Will take around 30 minutes walk up the hill to the Castle (or take Bus Line 9). Will be a guided tour in English/German lasting about one hour.

Afterwards there will be time to have a closer look round the Castle, which dates to 13th century. A recommended place for local food and traditional beer is the beer garden of Wurzburger Hofbraeu (www.weurzburger-hofbraeukeller.de), just a short walking distance away. Details will be provided about other interesting places to see in Wurzburg.

Meet up again at the Restaurant "Backofele", where tables are reserved; then back to our hotel (taxi is 15 Euros, or take a bus - about 30 to 40 minutes away).

Sunday, 26th September - After breakfast we are invited to see the German Lockpickers at work again in their National Competition; opening locks manually, with very simple tools and without damaging the locks, in Veitschochheim's Congress Hall (5 minutes from the Hotel). Lunch is free for you to fix as required; there are plenty of restaurants in the historic village centre, with some overlooking the River Main. If more than 25 persons are interested a wine tasting in the historic wine centre can be arranged.
